Exterior painting in Queen Anne
Our exterior painting service in Queen Anne covers whole-house repaints and trim-only work, and color consulting is part of it. Structural repairs to trim and siding happen before paint. The exterior service covers:
- pressure washing
- lead testing
- surface preparation for paint adhesion
- siding, trim, soffits, shutters and exterior doors
- solid, semi-solid and semi-transparent stains on decks and fences
- varnish or clear coat on exterior doors, shutters and other exterior wood
Why the forecast for the next two nights matters more than today's
Sherwin-Williams rates the exterior lines we use, Duration, SuperPaint, Emerald, Resilience and A-100, for application down to 35F, so a cool day is rarely the problem. The film then needs about 48 hours above the dew point to coalesce. Dew that settles on a coat before it has finished forming works into the film and, as it evaporates, pulls ingredients to the surface. The result is staining or adhesion that never fully develops, and it shows up months later when the paint gets the blame. That is why an exterior date sometimes moves.
Interior painting
Low-VOC paints are available where a household needs them. The interior service covers:
- minor drywall repairs
- wallpaper removal
- surface preparation and priming
- walls and ceilings
- baseboards, crown molding, wainscoting, window trim, door trim and doors, brushed or sprayed
- off-site spraying for doors and larger millwork
- color consultation and interior color scheme matching
Farrow and Ball, Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams go on walls. Millwork that deserves it gets Fine Paints of Europe enamel. If an older house still has its original stained woodwork, talk to us before deciding to paint over it.
Lead-safe work on pre-1978 houses
On any house from before 1978 the EPA lead rule, formally Renovation, Repair and Painting, shapes the interior. Only a certified firm may disturb the paint, and the exemption of six square feet per room inside or twenty outside is too small to matter on a repaint. We test before sanding. Where lead is present, we seal off the room, control the dust and clear the debris as the rule sets out. Paintzone holds the EPA certification.
Commercial painting
We paint the storefronts and restaurants along Queen Anne Avenue, offices, clinics and new construction, alongside the houses. The commercial service covers:
- interiors for warehouses, retail stores, offices, restaurants and museums
- exteriors for storefronts and multi-story buildings
- wood siding, stucco and metal surfaces
- accent walls
When the premises stay open we work in phases around your hours, with protection put up and taken down daily. A vacant space we work straight through and spray where spraying is better. We settle that at the walkthrough.
Cabinet painting: kitchens and built-ins
Cabinet painting keeps the boxes and changes the finish, in kitchens from the 1920s to last year's remodel. The cabinet service covers:
- painting existing cabinets
- painting new cabinets
- refinishing oak, maple, cherry, alder and other cabinet woods
- off-site spraying and refinishing
- high-gloss application
Doors and drawer fronts are finished in the shop with Milesi or Renner two-part polyurethane and come back to boxes that were sprayed in place. A coating that cures chemically is far harder than a wall paint. The same finish goes on vanities, built-ins and furniture.
Specialty finishes
A plaster wall goes on the same schedule as the rest of the repaint. Tell us at the walkthrough which walls you have in mind, and they go in after the repairs and primer.
Limewash
A mineral finish for masonry and plaster.
Roman clay
Troweled on for a matte, slightly irregular surface.
Tadelakt
A lime plaster used in showers and other wet areas.
Venetian plaster
Burnished to a polished finish with visible depth.
We also do microcement, French wash and high-gloss enamel on doors and millwork. Every one of these finishes is applied by hand and no two come out the same, so ask for a sample before you commit a room.

Queen Anne painting FAQs
Are you actually based in Queen Anne?
Yes. Paintzone's address is 600 W Olympic Pl #503, Seattle, WA 98119.
Can you do the trim only?
Yes. Trim painting and touch-ups are part of the exterior service, and they are often the right call when the siding is sound and the trim is not.
Why did you move my exterior date when the day looked fine?
Because the coat needs about two days above the dew point to cure, and the nights were forecast cold and damp. A film that takes on dew before it has formed stains or loses adhesion later.
Do you handle lead-safe work on older houses?
Yes, on anything built before 1978. We test before sanding, contain the area when lead is found and remove the debris as the rule says. Paintzone is a certified firm.
Do you offer low-VOC paint?
Yes. Low-VOC and non-toxic options are available for interiors.
Do you take commercial work in Queen Anne?
Yes. Storefronts, restaurants, offices and clinics, interior and exterior, phased when the space stays open.
How to check a painting contractor before you sign
Before you hire anyone, including us, check the registration. Washington contractors register with L&I, and you can look up registration status, bond, workers' compensation and any legal actions at Lni.wa.gov/Verify.
Paintzone is on that register as a construction contractor, license number PAINTL*811QD, Washington UBI 604 513 060.
The EPA's Renovation, Repair and Painting rule covers housing built before 1978, and anyone paid to disturb paint on those properties has to work for a certified firm. Paintzone is certified to work with lead paint.
