At Paintzone, we refinish kitchen and bathroom cabinets in a new color, or in stain and a clear coat on natural wood, and the layout, counters and plumbing stay where they are.
Working with Paintzone
Owner-run
Paintzone is owned and run by Andrei Danu and Dorin Sirbu, who came to painting from architecture and mural work.
Specialty finishes in house
Limewash, Roman clay and tadelakt can go on the same estimate as the paint, from one accent wall to a whole room.
Free written estimates
Every estimate is free and written out, listing the surfaces, the preparation, the products and the price.
What our cabinet painting covers
Kitchens, bathroom vanities and built-ins can go on one estimate. The cabinet service includes:
- Kitchen and bathroom cabinets
- Built-ins and laundry, office and garage cabinets
- Existing, new and previously painted cabinets
- Oak, maple, cherry, alder and other woods
- Doors and drawer fronts sprayed in our shop
- High-gloss finishes
How the shop process works
Doors, drawer fronts and other removable parts go to our finishing shop, and the cabinet frames are finished in your kitchen.
In our shop
We strip the old finish from the doors and drawer fronts and spray the new coating in a controlled space. Each piece is checked before it comes back to be rehung.
In your kitchen
We mask the counters, floors and appliances before spraying the boxes.
The hardware
Hinges and pulls are unfastened, cleaned and polished, and they go back on with the doors.
Paint, reface or replace
Painting makes sense when the boxes are sound and the layout works. Refacing puts new doors and drawer fronts on the same boxes, and replacing starts over.
Why cabinet doors get a harder coating than walls
A two-component polyurethane cures by a chemical reaction into a surface hard enough for a kitchen, while wall paint dries as its water evaporates and stays relatively soft. We spray coatings from makers such as Milesi and Renner.
Cabinets in older homes
In a house built before 1978 we test the old finish for lead before any sanding or stripping, and if the test is positive, the work is contained and the dust cleaned up.
How we work
Consultation and estimate
We visit, walk the property with you and talk through colors and finishes before we write the estimate.
Preparation
We cover floors, counters and appliances with durable masking, then clean, sand, repair and prime. Work lights show us the dings and cracks that room lighting hides.
Painting
We spray the doors and drawer fronts in our shop and finish the frames in your kitchen, with whichever method leaves the better surface.
Inspection
Before we call the job finished, we check every painted surface against the written scope.
Cleanup
We take down the protection, haul away materials and debris, and leave the property as clean as we found it.
Final walkthrough
We walk through the finished kitchen with you before we leave.
Cabinet painting FAQs
How much does cabinet painting cost in Seattle?
We price cabinets after seeing them, and the estimate is free. The number of doors and drawers, the boxes and panels included, their condition and the finish you choose set the price.
How long does cabinet painting take?
The schedule is in your estimate. It depends on how many doors and drawers there are, how much repair they need and how many boxes are finished on site.
Can you paint cabinets that were painted before?
Yes. We strip the old paint from the doors and drawer fronts first.
Can you paint new cabinets?
Yes. New cabinets go through the same process, with the doors and drawer fronts sprayed in our shop and the frames finished in place.
Can cabinets be high gloss, stained or clear-coated?
Yes. We paint cabinets in a new color, up to high gloss, or refinish natural wood in stain and a clear coat. The process depends on the existing finish and the wood species.
Can you fill the grain on oak cabinets?
Yes. For a smooth, closed-grain painted finish we fill the oak grain before painting, or we keep the grain visible if you prefer.
How do I get a cabinet painting estimate?
With photos, the number of doors and drawers and the finish you want, we can give you a preliminary estimate. Call (206) 899-5154 or write to us through the form, and we may visit before the final proposal.
How to check a painting contractor before you sign
Before you hire anyone, including us, check the registration. Washington contractors register with L&I, and you can look up registration status, bond, workers' compensation and any legal actions at Lni.wa.gov/Verify.
Paintzone is on that register as a construction contractor, license number PAINTL*811QD, Washington UBI 604 513 060.
The EPA's Renovation, Repair and Painting rule covers housing built before 1978, and anyone paid to disturb paint on those properties has to work for a certified firm. Paintzone is certified to work with lead paint.
