Working with Paintzone

Owner-run

Paintzone is owned by Andrei Danu and Dorin Sirbu.

Specialty finishes in house

Our own painters apply limewash, Roman clay, tadelakt and the other plaster finishes.

Free written estimates

We are happy to walk the property with you and put the whole job in writing, at no charge, covering surfaces, preparation, products and price.

Interior painting

The interior service covers:

  • minor drywall repairs
  • wallpaper removal
  • surface preparation and priming
  • walls and ceilings
  • baseboards, crown molding, wainscoting, window trim, door trim and doors, brushed or sprayed
  • off-site spraying for doors and larger millwork
  • color consultation and interior color scheme matching

We paint interiors with Benjamin Moore, Sherwin-Williams and Farrow and Ball. Where a door or a run of trim should look like furniture, we use Fine Paints of Europe enamel.

We pick the sheen surface by surface. A long wall in raking light shows roller texture that a short wall hides, so the long wall gets a flatter finish and the trim beside it a higher one.

Exterior painting

The exterior service covers:

  • pressure washing
  • lead testing
  • surface preparation for paint adhesion
  • siding, trim, soffits, shutters and exterior doors
  • solid, semi-solid and semi-transparent stains on decks and fences
  • varnish or clear coat on exterior doors, shutters and other exterior wood

Front doors can be finished in Fine Paints of Europe enamel.

Why a deck takes a different product from siding

Water collects on decks, handrails and sills instead of running off, and the two coating types behave differently there. A penetrating oil such as Armstrong Clark soaks into the wood. It does not peel or blister, and when it thins you touch up the worn areas instead of stripping the whole deck. An acrylic forms a film. It flexes with the boards and holds off mildew, which is what siding needs. So one house leaves with oil on the deck and acrylic on the siding.

Commercial painting in Bellevue, WA

Besides houses, we paint commercial property across Bellevue. The commercial service covers:

  • interiors for warehouses, retail stores, offices, restaurants and museums
  • exteriors for storefronts and multi-story buildings
  • wood siding, stucco and metal surfaces
  • accent walls

The first question is whether the building stays in use while we paint. If it does, we protect the space daily and hand areas back at the end of each session. If it is empty, we work straight through and spray where we would otherwise brush.

Cabinet painting: kitchens and built-ins

Repainting the boxes and doors changes a kitchen without replacing the cabinetry. The cabinet service covers:

  • painting existing cabinets
  • painting new cabinets
  • refinishing oak, maple, cherry, alder and other cabinet woods
  • off-site spraying and refinishing
  • high-gloss application

The same process works on bathroom vanities, built-ins and furniture.

Why cabinets take a different coating from walls

Wall paint is one component and waterborne. It dries as the water evaporates and the film stays fairly soft. A two-component polyurethane cures instead of drying. We mix the resin with a catalyst right before spraying, and the two cross-link into a film that is harder and holds up against abrasion and household chemicals, which is what a cabinet door faces every day. Mixed material has a pot life, so we use it that day or throw it out. That is why we spray Milesi and Renner 2K coatings on cabinetry.

Specialty finishes

Our painters do both the repaint and the plaster work, so a limewashed wall or a Roman clay room is estimated and scheduled together with the rest of the job.

Limewash

A mineral finish for masonry and plaster.

Roman clay

Troweled on for a matte, slightly irregular surface.

Tadelakt

A lime plaster used in showers and other wet areas.

Venetian plaster

Burnished to a polished finish with visible depth.

We also do microcement, French wash and high-gloss enamel on doors and millwork. Every one of these finishes is applied by hand and no two come out the same, so ask for a sample before you commit a room.

We hired Paintzone to apply a Roman clay finish to our fireplace in Kirkland. They turned an ordinary fireplace into a beautiful focal point that completely elevated the look and feel of our living space. The texture, depth, and natural movement of the Roman clay give it a timeless, sophisticated look that photos don’t even fully capture. Their attention to detail and passion for their craft were evident from start to finish. If you’re looking for skilled artisans who specialize in high-end decorative finishes, I can’t recommend Paintzone enough. We absolutely love our new fireplace and will definitely be using them again for future projects!

Andrei and team did a killer job on a tight schedule repainting our new house's kitchen cabinets! They were a dated Tuscany-style distressed dark cream, and I picked a green and a taupe for different parts of the kitchen. They also replaced the hardware. What a difference! Before and after pics below. I even had them repaint the green because I picked one that was too bright, and they were very accommodating. When the selling agent came to our housewarming she was blown away! Still need to redo tile and counters but this is already so much better. Don't hesitate to use Paintzone, I will be using them for future jobs for sure!

Love how these Roman clay accent wall turned out. The texture adds so much depth without being too busy. Andrei and his team did a very good job. (I skipped the sealer for a more matte look, highly recommended!)

Bellevue Painting FAQs

Do you take commercial painting work in Bellevue?

Yes. Paintzone works on offices, retail, restaurants, warehouses and storefronts across the city, alongside residential repaints.

How do I check that a painting contractor is registered in Washington?

Look them up at Lni.wa.gov/Verify. It shows current registration status, how long they have been registered, workers' compensation coverage, and any legal action against the contractor or their bond. Paintzone is PAINTL*811QD, UBI 604 513 060.

Why does my deck need a different product from my siding?

Because water sits on a deck rather than running off it. A penetrating oil soaks into the fibers and wears rather than peeling, which is the failure mode a film coating has on a horizontal surface. Siding is the opposite case, where a flexible acrylic film that resists mildew is the better fit.

Can you paint over cabinets that have already been painted?

Yes, with preparation. We spray two-component polyurethane on cabinetry. It cures harder than wall paint and takes the handling a kitchen gives it.

Which paints do you use?

Benjamin Moore, Sherwin-Williams and Farrow and Ball on interior walls and trim, Fine Paints of Europe enamel on doors and trim, Armstrong Clark oil on decks, Milesi and Renner 2K polyurethane on cabinets, and Portola, Romabio and Firenze for the specialty finishes.

Do you provide free estimates?

Yes, and in writing.

How to check a painting contractor before you sign

Before you hire anyone, including us, check the registration. Washington contractors register with L&I, and you can look up registration status, bond, workers' compensation and any legal actions at Lni.wa.gov/Verify.

Paintzone is on that register as a construction contractor, license number PAINTL*811QD, Washington UBI 604 513 060.

The EPA's Renovation, Repair and Painting rule covers housing built before 1978, and anyone paid to disturb paint on those properties has to work for a certified firm. Paintzone is certified to work with lead paint.
