At Paintzone, we paint anything from one bedroom to every wall, ceiling and door in the house, and a limewash or Roman clay wall can go on the same estimate and schedule as the paint.
Working with Paintzone
Owner-run
Paintzone is owned and run by Andrei Danu and Dorin Sirbu, who came to painting from architecture and mural work.
Specialty finishes in house
Limewash, Roman clay and tadelakt can go on the same estimate as the paint, from one accent wall to a whole room.
Free written estimates
Every estimate is free and written out, listing the surfaces, the preparation, the products and the price.
What our interior painting covers
One estimate covers the whole room, with the repairs and priming that come before the paint. The interior service includes:
- Walls and ceilings
- Doors, window trim, door frames and baseboards
- Crown molding, wainscoting and built-ins
- Drywall repair and wallpaper removal
- Sanding and priming, with oil primer on millwork
- Shop spraying for doors and larger millwork
- Color consultation and color matching
Help with colors
You can arrive with colors already chosen or settle them with us. The estimate comes with paint samples.
Painting a home while you live in it
You can stay home while we paint, though the sanding and repair days are easier if you are away. If you stay, we work through the house in an order agreed with you.
What to do with the furniture
Pack away small and fragile things before the first day. Larger pieces can stay, and we cover them with the same durable masking that goes over the floors and fixtures.
Dust from sanding and repairs
We close off each room while we sand and repair it, so the dust stays where the work is and the rest of the house stays usable.
Inside or outside first
If both are on your list, the interior can go first in the wetter months, while the exterior waits for a dry forecast.
Surfaces that need more preparation
Painted trim, doors and built-ins get more preparation than plain walls, and so does any paint old enough to contain lead.
Trim, doors and built-ins
We sand the old finish, prime with an oil primer and then apply the enamel. For doors and trim that should look lacquered, we use Hollandlac Brilliant, an oil-based enamel by Fine Paints of Europe that levels out to a porcelain-like, ultra high gloss.
Paint from before 1978
According to the U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey, about 53 percent of Seattle's homes were built before 1980, and the EPA notes that homes built before 1978 may have lead-based paint. In a house that old, we test before we sand, and if lead is found we contain the work area and clear the debris.
Specialty finishes
Roman clay needs a smooth wall, and limewash goes over its own primer on drywall and painted walls.
The specialty finishes we offer include:
Limewash
A lime finish for masonry and interior walls that dries matte, with soft variation in color.
Roman clay
A troweled clay plaster, velvety to the touch, with a subtle sheen.
Tadelakt
A Moroccan lime plaster polished with olive oil soap, so it sheds water in showers without grout lines.
Venetian plaster
Thin layers of limestone or marble plaster, burnished to a hard, stone-like surface.
We also do microcement, French wash and high-gloss enamel on doors and millwork.
How we work
Consultation and estimate
We visit, walk the property with you and talk through colors and finishes before we write the estimate.
Preparation
We cover floors, furniture and fixtures with durable masking, then wash, scrape, sand, repair and prime. Work lights show us the dings and cracks that room lighting hides.
Painting
We brush, roll or spray each surface, whichever leaves the better finish, and doors and larger millwork can be sprayed in our shop.
Inspection
Before we call the job finished, we check every painted surface against the written scope.
Cleanup
We take down the protection, haul away materials and debris, and leave the property as clean as we found it.
Final walkthrough
We walk through the finished job with you, so you see every room or side of the house before we leave.
Interior painting FAQs
How much does interior painting cost in Seattle?
We price each job after seeing it, and the estimate is free. The price depends on the rooms and surfaces included, how much repair the walls and trim need, and the products you choose.
How long will the work take?
Your estimate includes the schedule. Its length depends on the number of rooms and doors, the amount of trim, and how much repair comes before the paint.
How do I choose an interior painter in Seattle?
Look up the painter's Washington L&I registration, then compare written estimates that list the surfaces, preparation and products, not only a total. L&I itself advises getting at least three written bids.
Which paints do you use on walls and ceilings?
Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams. If you have a color from another brand, we can match it.
Do you work in condos and apartment buildings?
Yes. Send us the building's rules on working hours, elevators and parking when you book, and we plan the days around them.
How do I book an interior estimate?
Phone (206) 899-5154, or use the estimate form to tell us which rooms you want painted. We arrange a time to walk through them with you, and the written estimate follows.
How to check a painting contractor before you sign
Before you hire anyone, including us, check the registration. Washington contractors register with L&I, and you can look up registration status, bond, workers' compensation and any legal actions at Lni.wa.gov/Verify.
Paintzone is on that register as a construction contractor, license number PAINTL*811QD, Washington UBI 604 513 060.
The EPA's Renovation, Repair and Painting rule covers housing built before 1978, and anyone paid to disturb paint on those properties has to work for a certified firm. Paintzone is certified to work with lead paint.
